How to start as a food blogger?

Make up a recipe. Photograph. Eat. Repeat.

What is your favorite food?

There are two things that will always be my go to cravings. Pizza and unhealthy salads. If I could only eat two things the rest of my life it would definitely be pineapple and pepperoni pizza with hot honey drizzled on top and the second would be unhealthy salads. When I say unhealthy, I am talking all the fixings. Bacon, parmesan, fried chicken, dates, and whatever else ruins the healthiness of a salad, all on top!

What are your favorite ingredients to cook with?

I have definitely come to know and love whole, fresh local ingredients. Living in Michigan, you can find a farmers market or vegetable stand about every two miles. I always check those out to see if there are ingredients that you can’t get in the store, and most of the time there is my inspiration. I love anything that pulls in colors but also tastes good, like fresh raspberries, strawberries with the stems still attached, edible flowers or fresh herbs.

What’s next for T&B?

My goal for the next few years is to continue to provide content that keeps people coming back to this blog. I want to continue to grow my following and earn my followers trust that the recipes you find here will be your go-to recipes for the future.

I also want to continue to grow in my photography and food styling skills. It’s a new world I am not used to and I love learning how to take a good photo that makes my food look extra delicious. So please, if you have any tips for me, let me know, I would love the advice!

Is blogging your full time job?

Nope! Although, I wish it was.

That is why I recently changed my platform from Squarespace to WordPress. I want to grow my blog and make sure I am taking the steps that will allow me to index on search engines and get more traffic on my site. WordPress will allow me to now have ads on my site and more traffic through media that can potentially allow me to make an income off of this someday.

For more information on why I switched platforms and the benefits of using Squarespace, keep an eye out because I will be posting about it soon!

What props do you use for your photos?

I recently just purchased some photography surfaces from Replica Surfaces and I definitely plan on purchasing some more in the future!

I also really like to use cutting and pastry boards, wooden bowls and glassware that I get from places like Pottery Barn, William Sonoma or thrift stores even.

Where do you live?

I currently reside in Michigan. I moved here when I got married to my husband Chris who owns a local brewery. We are about 90 miles away from Chicago so we get the best of both worlds. Small town living with a big city a short drive away. Living so close to Chicago also comes in handy when I need inspiration, whether that’s food, drinks, home improvement or outfit ideas.

Can I use one of your photos on my site?

Honestly, I would prefer if you contact me and ask before posting any of my photos or recipes. It is very hard work making a blog and I appreciate any recognition but also want to make sure that I am tagged appropriately or given credit for my hard work.
